A new program helps prepared foods reach neighbors instead of going to waste.
We’re proud to introduce a new program at Harvest on Main: Second Serving – our full-circle approach to making good food go further.
As fresh items like ready-to-heat meals, cut fruit, salads, and housemade dressings near their sell-by date, they’re discounted—making them even more accessible. Anything left at the end of the day is then purchased through our Second Serving food budget and stocked in the Community Free Fridge at Second Harvest.
In March and April, over 380 meals and prepared items were shared, along with 17 pounds of cheese and 67 pounds of lunch meat—more than $1,350 worth of food stocked in the Community Free Fridge at Second Harvest. It’s one way we’re working toward a near-zero waste market – while keeping good food within just a few blocks of where it’s made.
Your gift helps ensure less food is wasted—and more is shared with neighbors in need. Every $5 you give adds one prepared meal to the Community Free Fridge—ready for a neighbor, right when they need it. Give now to help stock the next meal.
