Second Harvest Community Thrift Store
The free fridge, freezer, and pantry are easily accessed through a separate entrance to the right of our Community Thrift Store’s front door.
Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year for neighbors to take what they need, and leave what they don’t.
We know there are many reasons why items may no longer be sellable, such as overstock, surplus production, discontinuation, or imperfect packaging – even when they are completely safe to eat. Redirect surplus product to the Community Free Fridge at Second Harvest and keep quality items out of landfills. Contact us to get started!
We’re proud to support local agriculture and provide quality, locally-sourced produce to the people we serve. By working with Second Harvest, you are increasing access to nutritious, fresh foods to our neighbors in Sharpsburg and beyond. Contact us to get started!
Giving comes in many forms – not just food. Second Harvest runs on donations of your time, quality goods, and monetary support.
Learn more about increasing the impact of your donations.
Give your time, support local families, and experience the joy of building community—side by side.
Your donated goods become dollars that are reinvested to create opportunity, increase food security, and build community.
While meeting material and relational needs is why we exist, neighbors like you are the how behind these critical programs.

Last week, Jill and Bonnie attended a @ToastTab event for local businesses in Pittsburgh.
There, they met Zoe and Max — thrifters, parents, brunch lovers, and co-owners of @lolas_eatery.
After a great conversation, Zoe pulled out her phone to follow Second Harvest… and realized she was our 5,000th follower 🎉
So this week, we stopped by Lola’s with a little celebration of our own.
To celebrate 5K together, we’re giving away:
✨ $100 to Second Harvest Community Thrift Store
✨ $100 to Harvest on Main Community Market
✨ $100 to Lola’s Eatery

We wish every single fan of Bonnie’s could have been in the audience at last week’s Pittsburgh Business Times’ Women of Influence Awards celebration.
Getting to celebrate alongside so many inspiring women leaders — and to see Bonnie recognized among this year’s honorees for the care, vision, and leadership she brings to Second Harvest every day — was incredibly special.
These moments are a reminder that community-centered work matters. And we’re so grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey with us.
Congratulations again, Bonnie — we’re still celebrating you. 💛

Last week, Second Harvest’s own Bonnie DeMotte received the American Association of University Women’s Gateway to Equity Award in recognition of the vision and dedication behind Second Harvest’s work in Sharpsburg.
From the Community Thrift Store to Harvest on Main Community Market, Bonnie’s leadership has helped create spaces that meet the community’s material and relational needs — reducing barriers to affordable essentials while building places where neighbors feel welcomed, known, and cared for.
Bonnie would be the first to say this work has always belonged to a community of neighbors, volunteers, staff, and partners who have built Second Harvest together along the way. We were especially glad that longtime volunteer Lindsay Totten could be there to celebrate with Bonnie last week.
Drop a 🎉 in the comments to congratulate Bonnie and the team on this meaningful honor — and to celebrate a community that continues to show what’s possible when neighbors come together with care, dignity, and hope.

At Second Harvest, Wednesday mornings are about more than coffee and conversation.
What started as a Senior Social — a chance for our silver neighbors to gather over a meal on us and enjoy 25% off in the store — has grown into something deeper: friendship, routine, and belonging.
Most Wednesday mornings, senior neighbors come to the store whether there’s an official Senior Social or not – usually with a homemade cake in hand. There are always familiar faces waiting for them around the table. “Everyone’s smiling, laughing, telling each other they love each other, and sharing a good meal,” says one neighbor.
These are the kinds of moments that make Second Harvest more than a store – made possible by the generosity of neighbors like you.
☕ Senior Socials take place the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 10AM–12PM at Second Harvest Community Thrift Store.
🚐 Free transportation is available courtesy of North Hills Community Outreach. Call Tracy to schedule a pick-up: 412-449-0151.
