Thrift Volunteer Information
Second Harvest’s Community Thrift Store runs on the power of volunteers – neighbors like you who want to make a difference in our community. Sign up to volunteer, and join a compassionate group of volunteers committed to reducing waste and building a community of hope, opportunity, and mutual aid.
Signing up to volunteer couldn’t be easier, and there’s no experience needed. Browse the calendar below, choose a date and shift that fits your schedule, and look for a confirmation email in your inbox. We can’t wait to welcome you to our volunteer community!
Before your first shift, take a few minutes to watch our short volunteer overview video. It offers a glimpse of what volunteering at the Community Thrift Store is like. No experience is required—you’ll receive a quick orientation when you arrive, and we’ll match your role to your comfort level.
Shifts are two hours, with morning and mid-day options available.
Tasks vary daily — sorting donations, pricing items, restocking shelves, light cleaning, or welcoming shoppers.
Volunteers must be at least 14 years old. Younger volunteers may participate if accompanied by an adult — we’ll tailor your role to match your age and ability.
Tasks vary daily — sorting donations, tagging merchandise and clothing, restocking shelves, light cleaning, or welcoming customers and donors.
Volunteer parking is available across the street from the Community Thrift Store at Sharpsburg Family Worship Center (corner of 8th and Clay Streets). Please help us keep the store’s on-site parking lot available for customers during store hours.
Engage your workplace, school, or other affinity group around a shared cause! Consider choosing an item type like clothing or cookware, and organize the collection of like-new items of that kind. By donating those items to Second Harvest’s Community Thrift Store, your group is making affordable goods accessible to every household in our community. From our community to your feed!
Yesterday, we opened our doors at Harvest on Main Community Market.
No ribbon cutting or fanfare — Just shelves stocked, coffee brewing, and so much gratitude for everyone who helped bring this space to life.
It means so much to finally share it with you.
Come see what we’ve been building. 💛

Meet Chris, back where he belongs ❣️
If you’ve followed Chris Condrin’s story, you know 808 Main Street once housed his uncle’s beloved bakery. Soon, the space will be filled again with neighbors and the rhythm of a working kitchen — this time led by Chris as Harvest on Main’s Prepared Foods Manager.
The meals he’s preparing aren’t just recipes. They’re family traditions — ready to heat, and made to be shared.
